Menswear store hit by rumours
A MENSWEAR chain was at the centre of speculation over whether it could be up for sale.
The Officers Club has 150 outlets across the country including one in the Middleton Grange Shopping Centre, in Hartlepool.
Claims have been made that the 16-year-old company was marketing the stores as a distressed sale, which involves a low offer price because of a downturn in sales.
But accountants at KPGM have said they could not comment on the claims surrounding the company which also has outlets in Peterlee, Durham, Stockton, Middlesbrough and the MetroCentre.
The speculation comes as another store in the Middleton Grange Shopping Centre in Hartlepool was preparing for its final days.
Woolworths will shut in town on Saturday along with 11 other stores in the region.
The Peterlee branch has been given a closure date of Friday, January 2, along with stores in Bishop Auckland, Byker, Gateshead, Newton Aycliffe and Richmond.
