Mothers’ Day heartbreak for missing man’s mum

A HEARTBROKEN mum says she is dreading spending Mothers’s Day wondering where her missing son is.

Hartlepool man Scott Fletcher has not been seen since May 11, 2011, despite almost two years of police inquiries, public appeals and searches.

His mum, Julie Fletcher, is now set to spend her second Mothering Sunday without her 28-year-old son and is still no closer to knowing where he is.

Julie, who lives with husband John on the town’s Bishop Cuthbert estate and works at St Hild’s CofE school on the Headland, said: “I am dreading Mother’s Day and I find it extremely difficult to celebrate the day at all. Scott is still hugely missed.”

Police say the investigation into Scott’s disappearance is “very much open” and are re-appealing for information about his whereabouts.

The Mail reported how Scott has missed the first day at school of his daughter Lucie Fletcher, five, who goes to Fens Primary. The youngster keeps a photo of her dad that she kisses each night.

The family also had to put up with disgusting comments on social networking sites about Scott last year and have had to hear a string of rumours about Scott.

Superintendent Jon Green, of Hartlepool Police, said: “This is clearly a distressing time for Scott’s family, who just want assurance that he is safe and well and have him home with them.

“Julie deserves to know her son’s whereabouts and it must be torture for her to not have him by her side on Mothers’ Day. Someone has information that will not only assist us but will ease Julie’s mind about where Scott is and I would urge them to come forward.

“This investigation is very much open and any information received will be taken seriously and looked into.”

Scott, who lived in the Throston area of town, was last spotted in a lay-by opposite the Jet garage on the A181 at Wheatley Hill. He was wearing a black sweatshirt and black jeans.

The search for Scott has extended to the Durham, Cumbria and Liverpool areas, as it is believed he has connections there.

People can report any information in confidence to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Anyone with information is asked to contact officers on the non-emergency number 101.
