A MOTORCYCLIST has been taken to hospital after suffering a broken leg and pelvis in a crash with a car.

The serious smash happened just before 6am on Monday on Marina Way, in Hartlepool, close to the Asda roundabout.

The road was closed in one direction for around an hour to traffic heading towards Asda from Church Street so the vehicles could be cleared.

But it is back open and traffic is flowing freely in all directions.

Cleveland Police said the 42-year-old motorcyclist has been taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough after he suffered a broken right leg and broken pelvis.

He was in collision with a VW car driven by a 26-year-old man.
