The Mad Alice Theatre Company will present Shakespeare's romantic comedy, Much Ado About Nothing, in Hartlepool's Ward Jackson Park, over two nights.

The show - which has been give an unusual twist by being set in 1950s north East England - takes place on Tuesday, June 17 and Wednesday, June 18 at 7.30pm.

With Teddy Boys, live music and the conga to add to the fun, this fiesty 90 minute show is just the thing for a summer evening.

Mad Alice Theatre Company will also be performing two shows especially for Hartlepool schoolchildren.

The school performances last 45 minutes and are suitable for those aged four and over.

All of the performances start at the clock tower and the action moves around the park, finishing in the area between the fountain and the bandstand.

Hartlepool Borough Council have organised the shows which have been funded by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

Claire Munroe, from the council's heritage and museums service, said: "Mad Alice have earned high praise from the critics for their innovative, fun performances and we are delighted to welcome them back to Hartlepool.

"Please remember to dress according to the weather and bring your own seating or a rug. Why not make your evening out even more memorable by bringing along a picnic?"

There will be a free park and ride scheme operating from Summerhill countryside park, off Catcote Road, every 15 minutes from 6.30pm.

There is also a limited amount of street parking close to the park.
