Mum's boost for fire campaign
A HARTLEPOOL mum whose son died in a chip pan fire has raised more than £7,000 to support the fight against killer blazes.
Lynn Ford has campaigned tirelessly to make people aware of the dangers of fires in the kitchen, where the majority of fires start.
The former Hartlepool woman's son, Andrew, died in December 2005 after putting a chip pan on after a night out and falling asleep.
Lynn, who now lives in Stockton, raised 7,585 to support Cleveland Fire Brigade's Ban the Pan campaign, aimed at removing dangerous and outdated chip pans from peoples' homes.
It will also help towards Cleveland Fire Network's After Fire Support scheme which offers financial assistance to the victims of house fires.
She said: "I am intensely grateful to the businesses and people who have supported this cause and delighted to be handing over a cheque for nearly 8,000.
"This shows how important fire safety is to the public.
"The Fire Support Network, who give their time as volunteers, do a wonderful job and need our support."
