BOSSES at a citizens’ advice bureau are calling on volunteers to come forward and help provide their services.

Officials at Hartlepool Citizens’ Advice Bureau, in the town’s Park Road, say they “rely heavily” on having enough sufficiently trained volunteers to offer its various services to residents.

Volunteers are described as the “lifeblood” of the popular service, but fresh blood is needed.

The bureau has therefore launched a new volunteer recruitment campaign and officials are asking those who may be interested in helping to get in touch.

Janet Noble, recruitment and training officer, said: “We can put forward 10 good reasons why people should consider joining us.

“Those reasons are helping to make a difference to people’s lives, help your local community, a chance to try something new and a chance to use your own experience in a productive way.

“It is also a great opportunity to develop new talents and skills, to challenge yourself and increase your confidence while also helping to inspire others to help people.

“Volunteering is also a good way to keep active and a chance to meet new people.”

The CAB offers advice, help and assistance with a range of different issues which include debt problems, advice on welfare benefits, housing and homelessness issues, consumer problems, taxes, employment rights, money management and budgeting.

It provides a comprehensive training programme for all new volunteers and we have a support and supervisory system to ensure that volunteers receive all the help they need when advising clients.

Janet added: “Volunteers are the lifeblood of our service and without them we would grind to a halt.

“We are now seeking to recruit some new volunteers and anybody interested in joining us will be offered an initial informal chat when we can give full information and detail about the work we do and what we expect from them.”

For more information people are asked to contact Janet on (01429) 408417 or email tutor@hartlepool,cabnet.org.uk.

The CAB is at 87 Park Road, Hartlepool and an appointment with Janet can be arranged by calling into our offices.
