PUPILS learned all about journalism and their favourite local newspaper after a visit by the Hartlepool Mail.

Year 4 children at West Park Primary School, in Coniscliffe Road, Hartlepool, picked up tips about how to interview people and how to write stories.

The pupils, aged eight and nine, also learned about the history of the paper and put Gavin Ledwith, the Mail’s assistant editor (content), on the spot with some questions of their own.

Mr Ledwith said afterwards: “I was very impressed by the pupils’ grasp of newspapers.

“They answered my questions very intelligently and also asked me some searching questions at the end of the session.

“I am in little doubt that there are some journalists of the future here at West Park.”
