IMAGINATIVE children had a great day on a story trail based around a kids’ literary favourite.

Staff at Summerhill Visitors Centre, off Catcote Road, in Hartlepool, held an event called The Storybook Trail – The Gruffalo.

Around 25 youngsters and their parents attended the fun activity from 11am until 3pm on Wednesday last week.

The Mail’s photographer went along and got a snap of the happy children as they took a break from the busy schedule.

They enjoyed a number of activities around the whole of the countryside park which were all based on the story of the Gruffalo, which was written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler.

John Swallow, an outreach officer for Hartlepool Borough Council, helped organise and run the day.

He said: “We had a great day and the weather held off.

“We got around the whole park doing little activities which all the children enjoyed.

“For example when we came across the snake then we did a snake race and they had to collect things, and then make a snake up before heading off to find another part of the trail.

“They also did gruffalo masks and played games based around the mouse and the owl.

“It was good fun and went down well.”
