Pair get top marks for hair and beauty
STUDENTS triumphed in a regional heat of a hair and beauty competition to win their place in the national finals.
East Durham College hair and beauty students performed impressively at the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists Annual Competition.
The college came away with a number of awards at the highly-competitive event, that was on Sunday, February 28, and Monday, March 1.
Madina Devine, 27 and Paula Thomas, 34, both from Peterlee, did extremely well in their events.
Madina, who finished top of the class in the gents barbering category, said: "I was so excited to win, it was a real shock.
"I'm now really nervous about competing at the nationals but really excited about it too."
Paula Thomas, who came second in the creative face painting make-up category, whose theme was nature, showed some highly skilled hand free work.
Both students will go on to compete against over 50 colleges across England, Scotland and Wales.
Simon Smith, curriculum leader for hair and beauty, said: "All our students performed magnificently. They showed great levels of professionalism and creativity."
The national finals will be held at Blackpool's Winter Gardens on Sunday, March 21, and Monday, March 22.
