A PENSIONER was taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg after falling off his roof.
The man, in his mid seventies, was said to be working on the roof of his home in Sandwich Grove, Hartlepool, when he slipped and landed on to the flat roof of his garage several feet below.
A neighbour called for an ambulance and the fire brigade also attended to get the homeowner down safely.
The man’s next door neighbour also went to the man’s aid while the emergency services dashed to the scene.
It happened at around 1.10pm on Saturday.
Mick Ireland, watch manager at Stranton Fire Station, said: “The gentleman had fallen off his roof and onto his garage roof.
“We got him onto a spinal board and brought him down.”
The man was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees but an ambulance service spokesman said his injuries were not life-threatening.
