A BUSY level crossing had to be marshalled by police officers for the second time in the last week after electrical problems jammed the barrier.
The crossing in Church Street, Hartlepool, had to be manned by Network Rail staff and police officers yesterday afternoon after the barrier broke at around 1pm.
Network Rail engineers said an electrical fault had caused the problem.
It is the second time the barrier has jammed in the last week after the same problem happened last Monday.
A Network Rail spokeswoman said the problem may have caused minor delays for trains while they slowed when passing the crossing but no major hold-ups.
The spokeswoman said: “Our staff went to the crossing as soon as we were made aware of the problems at around 1pm yesterday.
“Thorough investigations will now be carried out to determine exactly what is causing the problems so we can ensure it doesn’t happen again.
“We apologise for any inconvenience which may have been caused by the problems.”
A Cleveland Police spokeswoman confirmed they received reports of the incident at lunchtime yesterday. Those reports were passed onto British Transport Police who then alerted Network Rail.
