Police check '30 Darwin sightings'

DETECTIVES are today investigating more than 30 potential sightings of the back-from-the-dead canoeist.

Police officers have so far been pleased with the public response after they issued a photograph of a bearded John Darwin earlier this week.

Since releasing the photograph, the police have received 18 phone calls and 15 emails from people all over the world claiming to have seen the now beardless Darwin in the past five years.

The photograph, which shows Darwin sporting a lengthy beard, was issued by detectives after it was revealed that this was the one he had used on his latest passport.

Police were hoping the photograph might jog the memory of anyone who may have seen Mr Darwin in the past five years.

Officers are still however appealing for anyone else who may have seen Mr Darwin since his disappearance in March 2002 to get in touch.

Anyone with information can call (01642) 301333 or email darwininfo@cleveland.pnn.police.uk.
