Police chief’s interactive web chats

A POLICE chief will answer questions on his role and priorities during an online session tomorrow.

Cleveland’s Police and Crime Commissioner Barry Coppinger will also use the event to learn about peoples’ concerns and ideas for the future of policing in the area.

The ‘Ask Your Commissioner’ session, between 6pm and 8pm, marks the start of a series of interactive web chats that Mr Coppinger is introducing as part of his commitment to ensure that policing in Cleveland reflects the needs of local people.

He said: “Throughout the commissioner elections, and since coming into office in November, I have been determined that I really will be the people’s representative in overseeing how policing is delivered in Cleveland, and that means listening to the public.

“That was why I introduced the ‘Your Force, Your Voice initiative, the biggest public consultation exercise ever undertaken for Cleveland Police, which involves me meeting with people in every one of the force’s neighbourhood policing team areas.

“Using online communications is a natural extension of the initiative and hopefully will enable people who might not be able to get along to a public meeting to ask questions and give their views.”

‘Ask Your Commissioner’ is part of the Cleveland Police ‘Community Click’ programme of web chats which cover a wide range of policing departments, just last week Chief Constable Jacqui Cheer took part.
