Police name cyclist killed in Hartlepool

Police have named the cyclist who was killed in an accident in Hartlepool yesterday.

William Angus, 58, from Hartlepool, was killed in a collision on the eastbound carriageway of the A689 in Hartlepool, near to the Greatham turn off, at 5.30pm on Thursday evening.

The North East Air Ambulance was called to the scene, but Mr Angus was pronounced dead at the scene and police closed the A689 in both directions.

A number of witnesses have been spoken to who were in the area and police are appealing for any other witnesses to contact them at Cleveland Police on 101.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesman said paramedics were scrambled to the scene at 5.23pm.
