POLICE are looking for the occupants of a 4x4 vehicle who made off after crashing on the A19.
Emergency services were called to the southbound side of the busy dual carriageway at Wolviston, on the outskirts of Hartlepool at around 7pm on Wednesday.
The road was closed for around 40 minutes after the crash.
A Jeep-style vehicle was on its side on the embankment after it had collided with the central reservation, but there was no sign of the occupants.
It is not known at this stage if the vehicle is stolen or not.
Davey Vietch, a watch manager from Stockton Fire Station, said: “The occupants had made off and police are carrying out a search of the area to try and locate them.
“The road was closed for approximately 40 minutes and I would like to thank drivers for their patience.”
