Pools fans blast Leeds' ticket prices
ANGRY fans have hit out over ticket prices for Hartlepool United's big game with Leeds United this weekend.
Pools travel to Elland Road on Saturday for their first league clash against the fallen Yorkshire giants.
The match, which sees third placed Pools hope to overcome form team Leeds, has been classed a Category A game by the home side with ticket prices 25 for adults and 12 for under-16s.
Leeds classify their matches into three categories.
The high profile matches and derbies fall into A and fans can expect to pay anything up to 30 to watch.
Ticket prices for fans supporting clubs in Category C start from 15.
Seats for the match went on general sale on Monday and more than 2,500 Pools fans are expected to be there.
Pools charge away fans 20, with home fans also 20 (18 standing).
Many fans feel angry about Leeds' pricing policy.
Dave Robinson, 48, from the Rift House area of town, said: "The price is extortionate. Why a team promoted from League Two is classed category A and teams relegated from the Championship are Category B totally dumfounds me, especially a team as small as us."
He added: "Some simply can't afford to go. They've been priced out. Leeds fans have to pay more as well. Will they really want to pay 25 to watch Pools?"
Tom Smith, 57, from Hart Station, said: "It's an absolute disgrace.
They are putting on people's good will because it's a local derby.
"The category system should be abolished. There should be a set price regardless of who you play."
Pauline McSweenie, from Hartlepool Supporters Club, said: "We need to get something sorted in Leagues One and Two because clubs seem to be able to charge what they like.
"Who decides to put certain teams into the categories? It's just an excuse to bump the prices up."
She added: "It's a catch 22 situation, Leeds away is a massive game and people will always want to go. Leeds know this and so charge what they like."
Both clubs have declined to comment on Leeds' pricing policy.
