FOOTBALLERS are encouraging smokers to tackle their addiction and give up cigarettes for a month.
Stoptober, a 28 day national quit smoking initiative from Public Health England, takes place from October 1.
Hartlepool United have now put their support behind the campaign alongside Fresh and Hartlepool Borough Council.
Research shows that smokers who stop for 28 days are five times more likely to stay quit afterwards and those having a go can take advantage of free support.
Pools boss Colin Cooper said: “We’re really happy to throw our support behind the Stoptober initiative.
“It can obviously be tough to quit smoking but hopefully we can help get the message out there to as many people as possible that there is fantastic support available with the Stoptober campaign.”
If you want support, you can contact the Stockton and Hartlepool NHS Stop Smoking Service on (01642) 383819 or visit https://stoptober.smokefree.nhs.uk/ for more information. Details are also available from your local pharmacy or GP surgery.
