Porkers trot out for Ham National
A PORKER trotted to victory in a race for pigs.
The Ham National was held at Sedgefield Racecourse where six rare breeds of pig took part in a race held as part of a special school holiday fixture.
Entrants in the competition included Miss Durham Rind, Sedgy Slice, Graham the Gammon, Bacon Hughes and Desert Porchid.
The event saw a string of heats before Franky de Porky streaked to victory in the final of the competition.
The porkers, which came from Joseph's Amazing Racing Pigs, were all given an incentive to race because there was a trough of food on the finish line.
There were three breeds of pig involved in the race, Tamworth, Gloucester and Saddlback, and organisers say it proved to be a big hit.
Cassandra Jackson, marketing executive at the racecourse, said: "Interest has been really good and the kids are really loving it, along with the adults as well.
"There are three types of pigs and the kids got the chance to get really interactive and touch them and it was good fun."
