POSTAL workers in Hartlepool and East Durham will join a one-day national strike linked to the controversial privatisation of Royal Mail.
Members of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) will stage a walkout on Monday, November 4, after members balloted voted four to one in favour.
Peter Hall, secretary for the CWU Cleveland branch, said staff are worried about the implications for their pensions and pay and conditions.
He said: “I’ve had a series of meetings on Teesside including, Hartlepool and Billingham, and the feeling around the region is that everybody is up for it.
“It is really about protecting our terms and conditions.”
Royal Mail said it was “very disappointed” by the announcement, adding that any action, or the threat of disruption, was damaging to its business in the run up to Christmas.
