THE Princess Royal is set to visit Hartlepool next month as part of her role as President of the Royal Yachting Association (RYA).
Princess Anne will be visiting the Tees and Hartlepool Yacht Club (THYC) and Scaling Dam Sailing Club on Tuesday, September 23.
She will meet Barry Hughes (Commodore of THYC), Steve Gibbon (chairman of the RYA region), local Councillors and members of the Yacht Club Cadet Section.
A statement from the RYA said: “In her capacity as patron of the RYA Foundation, Her Royal Highness will launch the new THYC Sailability pontoon, which was funded by the club with grants in conjunction with Sport England and Hartlepool Borough Council.
“This pontoon facilitates easier access to boats by wheelchair users and sailors with restricted mobility. THYC is a RYA Sailability Foundation Centre.”
Princess Ann will then officially open the new, £100,000 training facilities and safety boat storage at the club which were completed earlier this summer following a grant from the Sport England Inspired Facilities Fund.
