A HARTLEPOOL United legend presented the manager of a Sunday League football team – set up in memory of his cherished wife – with a new set of strips.

Peter Naylor was stunned to discover his Raglan FC side had won the contest run by Specsavers in Middleton Grange Shopping Centre, in conjunction with the Hartlepool Mail, which asked town sides to explain why they deserved to win a new complete outfit for all the players.

Joe Allon, Pools’ 1991 promotion hero presented the strips.

Raglan FC, who play in the Hartlepool Sunday League Second Division, was set up in memory of Peter’s wife Kathleen who lost her fight with lung cancer in February 2010, aged 47.

Peter said: “We are delighted with these new blue and white strips, the same colours as Pools - which is even better.”

Joe said: “The team are very deserving winners and I was delighted to be able to present the new kits.”

Specsavers store director Ian Walker said: “The new strips look great and we have provided a Christmas tree for the club as well.”
