Reveller left with £185 court bill

A MAN involved in a drunken street brawl has been left with a £185 court bill.

Paul James Bigwood had been out drinking for his birthday in Church Street, Hartlepool, when he got involved in the fight with two other men at around 3.40am.

CCTV operators spotted the violent spat outside of The Hillcarter pub by nearby cameras, and sent police officers to the scene, Hartlepool Magistrates’ Court was told.

The officers arrested the trio after coming to the conclusion that they were all worse for wear with booze.

Prosecuting, Joanne Hesse told justices: “CCTV operators notified police of an ongoing disturbance in the early hours of the morning.

“Officers saw three males fighting with each other outside The Hillcarter.

“The men were separated and when spoken to each were found to be drunk. Due to their actions they were all arrested for being drunk and disorderly.”

Bigwood, of Lowthian Road, Hartlepool, pleaded guilty of being drunk and disorderly on February 17.

Mitigating, John Relton said his client, who does not normally drink, had consumed far too much alcohol on that night.

He said: “He recently lost his mother and he was out having a drink in anticipation of his birthday the following day and he can’t remember how he ended up in the mess that’s been described to you.”

Chairman of the bench Peter Charlton fined him £80, ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

The two other men involved, who were not named in court, have also been dealt with by the justices.
