RONALD McDonald delighted dozens of kids with magic tricks and helped to raise £300 for a town primary school.

More than 70 children packed into McDonald’s, Marina Way, Hartlepool, as the much-loved mascot made his very first appearance at the restaurant.

Staff said Ronald made an effort to speak to every single child who turned out to meet him and wowed them with his array of tricks.

And they were also overjoyed to reveal that a raffle and tombola on the day raised £300 for Springwell Primary School, in the town.

Beverley Williamson, business manager at the branch, said: “We have done a number of things over the past few months in support of Springwell Primary School so we thought Ronald’s visit was a perfect chance to raise some more cash.

“The raffle and tombola only went on for about three hours so to raise that amount of money in that time was excellent.”

Beverley said she is hoping to welcome the famous McDonald’s mascot back into the restaurant at Hartlepool Marina in the future.

She added: “He was absolutely fantastic, he spoke to every single child and made them all feel very welcome.

“Our seating area sits 100 people and that was completely full which shows just how popular he was.

“He was only meant to be in the restaurant for 45 minutes but he was here for more than an hour and a half to make sure he didn’t disappoint any of the kids.”
