Rooftop protest: Man in court

A MAN at the centre of a street disturbance has been charged with a series of offences and was due to appear in court today.

The 21-year-old had been on the roof of a property in Brougham Terrace, Hartlepool, for two-hours when police decided to withdraw from the scene for safety reasons.

The incident happened on Tuesday afternoon and uniformed officers arrested the man in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The man has been charged with a string of offences including public order offences and motoring offences.

He was due to appear before Hartlepool Magistrates' Court this morning.

Uniformed officers sealed off the road between the Hartlepool Enterprise Centre, in Brougham Terrace, and Raby Road.

Nearby Mapleton Road and Turnbull Street were also partially sealed off in the interests of public safety.
