Round Britain trek to repay rescuers

A TEENAGE fundraiser is trekking round Britain to make amends for a prank which cost around £20,000.

Seb Green visited both Seaton Carew and east Durham yesterday on the latest stage of his journey which is taking him from Weymouth around Britain before ending around Christmas at Land's End.

The 18-year-old began yesterday's leg of his journey at Seaton and later was met by a delegation from Glendene School and Community Arts College, in Easington.

The group of students are all taking part in their Duke of Edinburgh bronze awards and decided to meet Seb, who is partially doing the walk as part of his Duke of Edinburgh gold award.

Three years ago, Seb and a friend took a boat from Weymouth Marina and eventually ran aground.

Seb leapt over the side to seek assistance and sank up to his waist in mud.

His subsequent rescue involved the Coastguard helicopter, an inshore lifeboat and an overnight stay in hospital.

He estimated the bill was around 20,000 and he decided to embark on the walk round Britain to raise a sum equivalent to the cost of his rescue.

His walk – which has now reached Sunderland – has already raised 2,000 for the Starlight Children's Foundation, which helps terminally-ill children, and for the Air Ambulance.
