AN Olympic boxer has thrown her support behind a charity cancer appeal.
Savannah Marshall, Hartlepool’s world champion boxer, is supporting The Great Daffodil Appeal, a fundraiser launched by Marie Curie Cancer Care.
The cancer charity is encouraging everyone to give a donation and wear a daffodil pin during March.
It is also appealing for people to give an hour of their time to sell the flower pins in return for donations.
Money raised from the appeal will help Marie Curie nurses to provide more free care to local people with a terminal illness in their own home and at the Marie Curie Hospice, in Newcastle.
Savannah, who fought at the London 2012 Olympic Games last summer, said: “Marie Curie provides an invaluable service to terminally ill people in their final hours and I think this is a great campaign for people to get behind and show their support by wearing the charity’s daffodil pin.”
Charlotte Flowers, community fundraiser for Marie Curie Cancer Care, said: “We need people to help us collect this March so it’s great to have support from our local Olympic stars.
“Last summer we saw what a great impact volunteering can have and we’d like to call on local support to volunteer for our flagship fundraising event.
“Collecting is such a great experience and I hope everyone will help us make this year’s appeal a success.”
