A SERVING soldier in Afghanistan has pledged to raise money for poorly youngster Bradley Lowery.

Corporal Alex O’Rourke, 33, an army medic, will compete in an arduous 105-mile coast to coast race in Scotland on September 13.

It consists of running, cycling and kayaking and Alex hopes to complete it in under nine hours to raise as much money as possible for Bradley, two, from Blackhall, who is fighting neuroblastoma cancer.

Alex, who is originally from Middlesbrough, said: “I heard about Bradley from my partner who lives in Peterlee. I then started to follow his Facebook page and decided to try and raise some money for the little fighter.

“Bradley has inspired thousands of people in the community and now across the world in person and online as he undergoes this awful treatment to rid his body of the cancer.

“He lifts the spirits of everyone he comes into contact with.
