Shining a light on the 'people time forgot'
A GROUP of disabled film-makers have unveiled their latest project.
Members of the award-winning film company Shoot Your Mouth Off showcased their latest film called The People Time Forgot during an event at Hartlepool's Maritime Experience.
The film was commissioned by Hartlepool Borough Council for use in schools as a learning tool during citizenship lessons and explores a shortfall of disability references in museums and history books.
It was filmed at the Museum of Hartlepool with members of the group and actors from the Footlights Youth Theatre and describes the difficulties faced by disabled people throughout history.
Karen Sheader, the director of Shoot Your Mouth Off, said: "This was an opportunity for us to explore the way that disabled people are represented in history.
"What we discovered was there was scarcely any record in the local museums of disabled people or their histories.
"This gave us the idea for the story which was enhanced by the acting of Shoot Your Mouth Off group members with support from some very good actors from the Footlights Youth Theatre group.
"The group worked really hard on the project and it was an interesting idea to research.
"Everybody is really proud of the finished piece."
