SNOW is forecast as temperatures are set to plummet over the next few days.

The Met Office has issued an amber snow warning as wintry weather returns.

Forecasters say it will feel as cold as minus five in Hartlepool today although it is set to stay overcast and cloudy.

It will feel just as chilly on Saturday and light snow is predicted in the morning.

The cold snap is down to an areas of low pressure due to sweep the country from the Atlantic.

Met Office chief forecaster Will Lang said: “While it is not unusual to see snow in March, the cold weather we have seen has been quite prolonged.”

As the weather front moves north-easterly across the country rain will mix with cold air and fall as snow.

Temperatures will not get above three degrees Celsius on Sunday although no more snow is forecast.
