FORMER Hartlepool United star Nolberto Solano has been arrested on suspicion failing to work with bankruptcy officials.

Solano, who spent a season with Pools, was arrested at Manchester Airport after allegedly failing to co-operate with officials after he was declared bankrupt.

The 38-year-old was arrested by Greater Manchester Police last Wednesday after his court-appointed bankruptcy trustees KPMG issued a warrant.

Explaining the rare move, David Standish, restructuring partner at KPMG, said: “The arrest of a bankrupt is a draconian step and an option we would only ever consider as a last resort.

After his arrest, Solano appeared at a private hearing at Leeds County Court on Thursday, February 28.

He has been released pending a further hearing.

Solano was declared bankrupt by a court in Hull, where he was then playing, in 2011.

The court order was made after financial concerns involving Solano’s Tyneside homes, one of which was repossessed in 2010.

KPMG were appointed as the bankruptcy trustee in July 2011 to examine his available assets and help return as much money to his creditors as possible.

Solano’s discharge from bankruptcy is currently suspended by order of the court.

The Peruvian made 14 appearances for Pools in the 2011-12 season, scoring two gaols.

He decided to call time on his playing career last February having fallen out of favour under boss Neale Cooper.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman confirmed the force arrested Solano on behalf of another agency.
