A group from Hartlepool will spend a week in Gijón next month.

Co-ordinator Jayne Anderson, of Hartlepool Adult Education, said: “The project is aimed at young people who are not in education, training or employment.

“It is about meeting new cultures and engaging in activities that will build their self esteem and confidence but also open up new horizons as regards training and employment.”

On Tuesday, the group spent time at Pathways to Independence who provide support to children and adults with additional needs and disabilities.

They have also visited Cameron’s brewery, Cleveland College of Art and Design, Teesside University, Durham Cathedral and been taught street dancing by Zac Healey of Hartlepool’s Ruff Diamond.

Jayne added: “They are having a fantastic time. We are showcasing the town and certainly haven’t been short of anything to do.”

Tomorrow, they will watch Hartlepool United at Victoria Park courtesy of Pools chief executive Russ Green.
