THEY’RE through! Dance crew Ruff Diamond have battled their way to the finals of a national competition.

The six-strong crew from Hartlepool are now one step away from winning £250,000 in the Got To Dance competition on Sky 1 television.

And if it was nail-biting stuff at the competition venue, it was just as tense at V Bar in Hartlepool where supporters of the crew gathered to watch it all live on a big screen.

It was down to a public vote to determine which two out of six acts made it through and the Hartlepool contestants were the first finalists to be revealed by competition host Davina McCall.

It was standing room only at the Marina pub. Dad Steven Staunch, whose son Aaron, 19, is part of the crew, said: “I can’t speak. It is unbelievable.”

Fellow dad Peter Cope, whose son Lewis, 17, was also part of the crew, said: “They have done fantastically well. I am so proud of them.”

Earlier, the television show panelist Aston Merrygold told the crew: “You are my favourite of the whole series” while fellow panelist Kimberly Wyatt said: “You will be amazing in the final.”

Ruff Diamond will now dance live in the final screened on Sunday, March 17, also on Sky 1 HD at 6pm, in front of a 6,000-strong audience at Kensington Olympia.
