Stepping out for charity

A MENTAL health charity is hoping to raise awareness and cash by inviting people to join in a scenic walk along the seafront.

Hartlepool Mind is organising the Full Life sponsored walk to promote good mental health and boost funds.

The seven-mile walk, from Hartlepool Marina to Seaton Carew and back to the town centre, was well supported last year and raised over 800 for the charity's community fund.

Organisers are hoping people will get behind this year's event, on Sunday, July 18.

Claire Guffick, wellbeing practitioner, said: "Anyone and everyone can join in. "You don't have to get sponsored but if you want to it would be fantastic, but it's about promoting mental health.

"Mental health is every single person's concern and I think there's help for everyone if you do need it."

Hartlepool Mind, based in Tees Street, gets an average of 170 referrals per month from people suffering from anxiety, depression, stress, panic attacks, phobia, self- harmers and people who misuse substances.

The charity has trained therapists and counselling staff and also offers a range of workshops dealing with alcohol issues, confidence-building and anger management.

People can be referred to Hartlepool Mind by GPs, social services, health visitors or can walk in off the street.

The walk starts at the Marina Basin, at 4pm and finishes at Cameron's Social Club, in Waldon Street, at 7pm.
