Store set to get Tall Ships role

SHOPPING centre bosses say there are no plans for its former Woolworths store to reopen – but will use the focal point to promote Hartlepool's Tall Ships Races.

Managers of Middleton Grange Shopping Centre in Hartlepool have been trying to find another tenant for the large Woolworths unit which closed last year.

Centre manager Mark Rycraft said in the meantime the empty unit has been put to good use, and will soon hang a Tall Ships mural created by town school children over the store.

Mr Rycraft said: "We have no plans as yet to bring a new store into the old Woolworths unit, but we have been making great use of the empty space, allowing other retailers to set up window displays and in the coming weeks we will hang the last of our Tall Ships murals created by local schools above the store in our Central Square.

"The Square has become a fantastic reminder that Hartlepool is hosting the Tall Ships race this year, and we're thrilled that the murals are nearly all in and something our local school pupils, and the community as a whole, can be proud of."
