HEAVY rain with a risk of thunder is expected to last all day for Hartlepool and East Durham.
Morning commutes were hit by downpours and the persistant rains is foreact to not end until the early hours of Friday.
It is set to be chillier as well with highs of just 12C and lows of 8c overnight.
A Met Office spokesman said: “Rain in the morning is likely to be persistent and heavy with a risk of thunder. The heaviest rain should ease from late morning, however it will remain generally cloudy and cool with intermittent outbreaks of rain continuing.
“It will remain cloudy through the night with outbreaks of rain continuing. Some heavy bursts possible at times, most likely in southern areas.”
The unsettled weather will continue across the bank holiday.
