A PRIMARY school has launched its own radio station as part of an exciting £110,000 project.
Stranton Primary School in Hartlepool has transformed two old changing rooms into a radio studio and cinema room to boost the pupils’ learning using the latest technology.
Stranton FM will see young DJs broadcast songs and chat throughout the Southburn Terrace school during dinner and break times.
Phil Pritchard, Stranton Primary School’s ICT co-ordinator, said the project is helping to enhance their literacy and computer skills as well as boosting their confidence.
He said: “It is brilliant for literacy because they are writing their own scripts.
“The children absolutely love it. They want to spend as much time as they can in here.
“The next step is stream the station on the internet for parents and the wider community.
“We are the only primary school in Hartlepool with facilities like these that we are aware of.”
Jason Anderson and Tommy Hall from Radio Hartlepool passed on some tips when they visited the new studio.
Jason said: “I think its incredible and great for the school.”
The school’s new Experience Room also takes pupils on journeys all over the world and back in time by projecting videos and images on to four walls.
Headteacher Neil Nottingham said: “We know it’s going to massively impact on the children’s learning and enjoyment of school.
“It is giving them experiences they woudn’t otherwise have. With our experience room we can take pupils to the moon and other countries.”
