Students to make video for support group
STUDENTS from a Billingham school will help to create a video raising awareness of the serious hair loss condition alopecia this weekend.
Six girls from Northfield School and Sports College will take part in the project, including 13-year-old Bethany Thotopoulous who has suffered from extreme hair loss for six years.
She and five of her best friends will star in the video being produced tomorrow by support group BeBold.
Bethany discovered the support group two years ago and it has helped her come to terms with the condition.
She is now an active member of the group.
Darren Payne, BeBold founder, said: "The day promises to be such a positive experience for the young girls and potentially can stimulate other children into action and the rebuilding can commence from what is a soul destroying condition.
"We also want people to realise there are support groups and networks who can help."
Another 11 girls aged from six to 18 from across North East England will also appear in the video.
They will be put through their paces by professional dance company Dance in Education, which is from Leeds, who will get the girls ready for the shoot.
Mr Payne added: "These dancers are amazing and will provide a very visual powerful performance showing how confidence and support can help assist children come to terms with a life changing condition."
