A TALENTED teenager is celebrating after winning a place at a prestigious university.

Danielle Slade has secured a place at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) after beating off competition from hundreds of other talented youngsters.

The 17-year-old is a pupil at English Martyrs School and Sixth Form College, in Catcote Road, Hartlepool, but from September will be studying in Liverpool at the famous university founded by Beatle’s front man Paul McCartney.

Delighted Danielle will be studying music, events and entertainment management and harbours ambitions of organising music events when she is older.

Danielle – a former pupil at the Elwick Academy of Dance – had to undergo a gruelling maths and English exam plus complete an interview and presentation.

But she managed to beat off competition from hundreds of others to secure one of the 30 places on the course.

Danielle, from the High Throston area of Hartlepool, said: “My course focuses on the event management side of things and I am really looking forward to the challenge.

“The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts is a really prestigious institution and it is going to be a great experience for me.

“I am looking forward to gaining lots of experience and making good contacts.

“From the hundreds of applicants the whittle it down to just 30 so I was delighted to have secured a place.

“Just to secure an interview was amazing, so to get a place on the course is just fantastic,” added the teenager who lives with mum Debbie, 44, dad Martin, 49 and older sister Jordan, 20.

Danielle impressed staff at LIPA during the interview process with her presentation about a talent show she had helped organise at English Martyrs School, though she admitted she was nervous as she tried to impress the judging panel.

She added: “It was quite a nerve wracking process as there was a lot of older people there with much more experience.

“So, it was a relief when I got the news that I was being offered a place.”

LIPA offers a wide range of courses including acting, drama, music and sound technology, and Danielle’s is a three-year course.
