Super Throston slimmers celebrate success
SUPER slimmers are celebrating after losing more pounds than a WV Beetle car weighs.
Dieters from the Throston Slimming World group shed 2,441lbs in 10 months.
A 1967 model VW Beetle tips the scales at a mere 1,900lbs.
Consultant Sarah Dickenson, 28, took over the group in May last year and moved it to a new venue in Throston Primary School, in Hartlepool's Flint Walk, running two sessions a week instead of one to accommodate soaring numbers.
She said: "It's a massive weight loss. I'm immensely proud because it's a big thing to embark on any slimming campaign and to do it and put everything that you have got into it like a lot of our members do.
"They are enthusiastic and they are getting the results they deserve."
After starting with 20 members Sarah now has 85 people battling to lose weight.
The former High Tunstall College of Science pupil said individual weight loss ranged from 7lbs to three and a half stones.
Sarah, who initially joined Slimming World as a member in June 2008, lost three stones and became a consultant in January last year.
The mother of Bethany, nine, Joshua, seven, and three-year-old Finley, said the group is taking part in the national Slimming World Let's Beat it Together campaign to tackle obesity.
She said statistics show that the average person in Hartlepool has a body mass index (BMI) of 26.9, and anything between 25 and 30 is classified as overweight.
The campaign has a 1,000 prize incentive for the Slimming World group that loses the most weight to donate to its chosen cause.
Sarah, who is married to Lee Dickenson, 30, and lives off Park Road, Hartlepool, and also runs a group in the Grange area of town, said: "It's helping raise awareness of obesity in our local community."
The groups at Throston Primary School meets at 5.30pm and 7pm on Tuesdays.
