The event was to raise funds for the Hospital of God at Greatham’s Hartlepool Day Centre in Heather Grove.

Deb Smith had a family member cared for at the day centre, and to show her support for the facility, she took to the water with her daughter Casey, niece Sophie and friend Eireann.

And they were joined by staff from the day centre including day services co-ordinator Joanne Blackwood.

And it is not the first time Deb, Casey and Sophie have undertaken the sponsored swim.

Joanne said: “Deb and her family has once again done us proud by raising an amazing £690.50 which will go towards activities for our day centre guests.

“Our centre provides social opportunities for people who have a diagnosis of dementia.”

Deb added that she would like to say a big thank you to everyone who sponsored them including Bakewell’s Bakery customers in Owton Manor Lane, Mill House Leisure Centre staff and family and friends.

The charity swim event has been held for a number of years now, and the organisers are already planning for the next fundraising visit to the water.
