Swimmers get rewards

DELIGHT: Harry Watts with dad Simon and his trophies for backstroke and butterfly under-nine age category

DELIGHT: Harry Watts with dad Simon and his trophies for backstroke and butterfly under-nine age category

A SWIMMING club held its annual presentation evening to honour all the hard work by of swimmers and club chiefs.

There were 58 trophies to be won by youngsters aged eight to 19 from Hartlepool Swimming Club who took part in the club’s gala at the end of last year.

More than one hundred parents, friends and swimmers packed into Hartlepool Cricket Club to witness the proud moments when the children were presented with their trophies by chairman Shirley Black, who has worked tirelessly as a volunteer for more than 30 years.

The club has over the years produced a number of swimmers at regional, national and international level, including Olympian Gemma Lowe who started her career at the club.

It currently has Joseph Laybourn and Heather Richardson who are national swimmers and both have also competed for English Schools at international level.

The club has also recently attended the Junior League Gala, at Billingham Forum, with great successes for swimmers between the ages of eight to 12.

It has a offer available which is 10 weeks of free swimming lessons to help develop your child’s competency and technique and anyone interested can contact head coach Ian Bullock at headcoach@hartlepoolsc.co.uk or go to Mill House Leisure Centre any Tuesday at 6pm.

The club has swimmers from age three to 19 and they welcome swimmers of all ability.

For those wanting to develop their fitness the club also offers land training as well as weekend and early morning sessions for squad members.
