A PROBLEM street plagued by thieves, arsonists and vandals is being transformed thanks to the work of a dedicated neighbourhood officer.

Baden Street, off Elwick Road in Hartlepool, was becoming such a problem that council and police chiefs made it a priority area for a major £465,000 pilot scheme.

Tara Davison, who works as a neighbourhood development officer for Hartlepool Borough Council, was drafted in to work closely with residents, landlords and tenants.

Police say crime and anti-social behaviour in the street has been slashed by 60-per-cent as a result of the partnership scheme.
