Terry's satirical look at politics
AN INTERNATIONAL rugby player turned author has released a new edition of a successful book.
Hartlepool-born Terry Arthur, who played for West Hartlepool, Wasps and England in the 1960s, has updated his satirical look at politics more than 30 years after it was first released.
It has already won the approval of another writer who has poked fun at our Parliamentary system – Yes Minister television series co-author Sir Antony Jay.
Terry was educated West Hartlepool Grammar School, Manchester University and Cambridge University before later moving to live in Lincolnshire.
His self-published book called 95 per cent is C**p: A Plain Man's Guide to British Politics sold almost 20,000 copies in the mid-1970s.
Now the second edition of this book, C**p: A Guide to Politics, has now been published by Continuum Books.
Terry, who twice played for England in 1966, said: "One of the recommendations on the back cover, itself from a famous writer and broadcaster, is kind enough to say that the book "would have won the approval of George Orwell".
The dad-of-three, who now lives in Stamford, Lincolnshire, but still has family living in the town, added: "This is very gratifying. Part of my aim is to emulate Animal Farm as well as 1984 because it can be read on two levels, one for simple pleasure and humour, often by the younger generation, and the other more complex.
"Early feedback in the UK indicates that these twin aims are being achieved."
Terry, 67, a pensions and investments actuary, was a centre during the days when international rugby players were still amateurs.
The book is on sale at bookshops now and costs 9.99.
