TESCO is recalling a frozen turkey dinner after a manufacturing error meant the packs could contain an all-day breakfast meal, and therefore an egg.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued an allergy alert following the mix-up because the meal poses a potential health risk to consumers with an intolerance of eggs.
The affected product is the 400g Tesco Frozen Classic Turkey Dinner with a best before date of the end of July 2014 and batch codes R32071 and R32072.
Tesco is also contacting the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.
The FSA said: “If you have bought this product and have an allergy or intolerance to egg, do not eat it.
“Instead, return it to the store where you bought it for a full refund.”
No other Tesco products are known to be affected.
A Tesco spokeswoman said: “We have issued a product recall for the Tesco Frozen Classic Turkey Dinner 400g after we became aware a small number of Tesco Frozen Classic All Day Breakfasts were incorrectly packed in the Classic Turkey Dinner packaging.
“As a result of the packing error the allergy information would have been incorrect. We are currently investigating how this happened and customers who have purchased this product can return it to store for a full refund.”
