‘The vulnerable need protection’

THE Campaign for Fairer Gambling says it is not anti-gambling but it does want a ban on Fixed Odds Betting Terminals. It says the machines, which offer casino games like roulette, have multiplied in recent years.

It is concerned about their addictive nature, saying they cause more problems than any other kind of gambling. And the campaign accuses bookies of opening more betting shops to capitalise on them, as they are limited to four machines per shop.

It wants to see the number of terminals cut from four to one per shop, casino content removed and the maximum stake reduced from £100 to £2.

The campaign’s three objectives are:

l Preventing gambling from being a source of crime or disorder;

l Ensure it is conducted fairly and openly;

l Protect children and other vulnerable persons.
