Thieves steal grave lantern

POLICE are appealing for information after cruel thieves stole a lantern from a grave.

The blue lantern, with glass panels, is used to hold a candle and was recently placed on the new grave at Stranton Cemetery, off Brierton Lane, in Hartlepool.

Police say it was stolen between 12.30pm on Saturday, February 2, and 11.30am on Sunday, February 3.

Officers have appealed for information on the whereabouts of the lantern, or if anyone knows the thief responsible.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “Police are appealing for information after a lantern was stolen from a grave in Stranton Cemetery, on Brierton Lane, some time between 12.30pm on Saturday, February 2, and 11.30am on Sunday, February 3.

“Officers would like to speak to anyone who may know the current location of the lantern or anyone who has any other information.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Cleveland Police on the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on (0800) 555111.
