Things are looking rosy for the Gardens

FOUR close friends and successful businessmen have launched their latest venture with immediate success.

Stephen Baxter, Colin Marley, Kenny Pearce and Dave Mackay are all directors in civil engineering and landscape firm Marbax.

They decided to set up Exclusive Garden Features after Kenny spotted a gap in the market.

The company's showroom opened two weeks ago in Moreland Street, in Hartlepool, and specialises in high quality bespoke, rattan and timber furniture along with water features.

Kenny, who spotted some of the furniture in Indonesia and brought it back to his own garden where it received numerous compliments, said: "Even though the showroom has only been open a couple of weeks we have received all positive feedback.

"Most garden features in garden centres are plastic and go for 300 or 400.

"What we are offering is a couple of hundred pounds more, but real quality. Marble and granite features that can stay out all year and only need a rub down."

Kenny, 56, who lives in Greatham and also runs Project Design Management Services in Aberdeen alongside David, is not surprised by how popular the showroom is already proving to be.

He added: "There are a lot of people who really want to have something different and we have had people coming in telling us that they have been looking for the type of features we are stocking for a while and just haven't been able to find them before now."

Stephen Baxter, 51, who worked at Hartlepool Borough Council for 34 years is confident that Exclusive Gardens, which already has plans to expand it's showroom, can attract people from far and wide.

Stephen, who lives in Macaulay Road, said: "We have been thinking about doing it for the last 12 months and the early signs have been very good.

"We are aiming for the length and breadth of the country. My daughter lives in Norfolk and she said there is nothing like this down there,

"And not so long ago we had a couple in from Harrogate who said what we are stocking is exactly what they have been looking for."

Exclusive Garden Features is also attracting the attention of businesses with restaurant firms showing interest in the stock.

Colin Marley, 44, who lives on Newark Road on the Fens Estate, said: "It might not be everybody's cup of tea, but what we want to do is bring quality exclusive features and furniture to Hartlepool and the North-East."
