Thirteen firefighters spend hours tackling allotment fire

THIRTEEN firefighters spent two-and-a-half hours tackling a blaze at an allotment.

Fire crews were called to a 150ft by 30ft shed in allotments near South View in Wheatley Hill which was well alight.

Crews from Peterlee, Durham City and Wheatley Hill attended the incident, which happened around 9.10pm on Tuesday and was dealt with by 11.40pm.

At the height of the blaze, three jets, a hose reel and two breathing apparatus were in use.
