Toasting TV fame

Camerons as 'Finches'

Camerons as 'Finches'

A FAMOUS Hartlepool brewery is in the spotlight again – as the setting for a television programme.

Camerons in Hartlepool, which is famous for its Strongarm ales, will be making an appearance on TV later this year.

It played host to the crew for the popular ITV drama Vera, and filming took place across three consecutive days in December 2012.

Episode 4 of the third series has been filmed at various locations at the historic Lion Brewery site, including the main brew house and keg plant.

“Finches Brewery”, as it will be called in the episode written by Marston Bloom, was one of the main locations used and Camerons welcomed the cast and crew to the brewery.

Inspired by the best selling novels and characters created by acclaimed crime writer Ann Cleeves, Oscar nominated and award-winning actress Brenda Blethyn reprises her lead role as Detective Inspector Vera Stanhope alongside actor, director and producer David Leon who plays Vera’s trusty sidekick and surrogate son Det Sgt Joe Ashworth.

Other actors featuring in this particular episode include Jill Halfpenny (also of Wild at Heart, Mount Pleasant, and Waterloo Road), Liam Cunningham (also known for appearances in Game of Thrones, Strike Back, Hunger), Christine Bottomley (The Arbor, Land Girls, Tess of the D’Urbervilles) and Ralph Ineson (Secret State, Case Sensitive, Harry Potter).

The episode will broadcast as part of the new series on ITV later this year.

Camerons is enjoying a run of good news stories.

The Mail recently told how the brewery had clinched a £24m refinancing package. It is now hoping to grow and look for more business opportunities after extending its existing loan with the RBS bank.

Camerons was founded in 1865 and has been under its current ownership since 2002. It produced around 600,000 barrels of beer last year.

But bosses say they are operating at between 80 and 85 per cent of capacity and there’s space to take on more business.

Camerons employs 90 people in its brewery as well as 30 people in three managed pubs. It also owns an estate of 69 pubs across the North of England.

Camerons manufactures a range of beers and ales including the well-known Strongarm Ruby Red Ale and Trophy Special.
