Town ban for drink menace
A VIOLENT 23-year-old is the first woman to be given a booze ban in Hartlepool to “protect the public”.
Hartlepool Police applied for an order against drunken nuisance Kimberley McLeod when she appeared in court for a street assault.
The thug is now banned from entering the town centre at night for nine months as part of licensing officers’ efforts to cut down alcohol-related trouble.
The Drinking Banning Order also stops her from being threatening, verbally abusive or acting violent while under the influence of drink.
If she breaches any of the stipulations she will be efore the court, where you could face a prison sentence.
Sergeant Jonathan Wrigley, of Hartlepool Licensing Unit, said: “We have seen a number of women getting involved in aggressive or abusive behaviour as a result of too much alcohol lately, however, anyone at all, whether male or female, who gets involved in these kinds of incidents can expect to be dealt with robustly.”
The Licensing Unit and the Anti-Social Behaviour Unit in Hartlepool applied for the Drinking Banning Order when McLeod appeared at Hartlepool Magistrates’ Court accused of common assault.
McLeod, of Hartside Gardens, Hartlepool, admitted the charge dating back to December 8 last year and was sentenced to a six-month community order, with a requirement to get help for her alcohol abuse.
She was also ordered to pay her victim £50 in compensation and court costs of £85.
The banning order stops her from entering the areas bounded by and including Surtees Street, Mainsforth Terrace, Church Street, Stockton Street, Victoria Road, Park Road, Andrew Street, Huckelhoven Way and Tower Street between 8pm and 7am every day.
Sgt Wrigley added: “Working with partner agencies and obtaining banning orders is an excellent way of ensuring that the public are protected from this individual when under the influence of alcohol and ensuring that Hartlepool remains a safe environment for those who visit.
“Drinking Banning Orders also support the Hartlepool Licensees’ Association and their licensees to reduce and prevent violence within the night-time economy.
“It is important to get across the message that Hartlepool is a town which welcomes those who use alcohol in a responsible manner, however, those that abuse its use will be liable to be arrested and those who persistently abuse alcohol may also receive banning orders.”
